Kakri Ghat – The original meditation place of Neem Karoli baba

Kakri Ghat: The Hidden Meditation Retreat Near Kainchi Dham

Over the past few years, Kainchi Dham has gained immense popularity among youngsters and spiritual seekers from across India and abroad. I personally have visited this divine and powerful temple three times so far, and each visit has left me with a deep sense of peace and positivity. The temple undeniably carries a strong spiritual energy and a calming aura that is difficult to describe in words.

During my most recent visit, I felt an intense desire to sit quietly and meditate within the temple premises. However, when I enquired with the staff about a place where I could sit peacefully for some time, the response was a firm no—understandable, given the heavy crowd and strict regulations at Kainchi Dham.

Eventually, I struck up a meaningful conversation with one of the security guards and asked him a question that many devotees are curious about:
Where did Neem Karoli Baba, Swami Vivekananda, and other renowned personalities like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg meditate?

That conversation led me to discover a truly magical and lesser-known place called Kakri Ghat.

What is Kakri Ghat?

Kakri Ghat is located approximately 22 kilometers ahead of Kainchi Dham, nestled quietly along the serene banks of the Kosi River. It is a small, peaceful ashram, far away from crowds and commercial tourism.

The moment you step into Kakri Ghat, you can instantly feel its immense meditative and spiritual power—a presence that words or writing simply cannot capture. The silence, the flowing river, and the surrounding natural beauty together create an atmosphere that naturally draws the mind inward.

The Cave of Sombari Baba

One of the most sacred aspects of Kakri Ghat is the small cave of Sombari Baba, where he is believed to have spent long periods in deep meditation. This cave holds a unique spiritual vibration, and visitors instinctively maintain absolute silence and decorum, which further enhances the sanctity of the place.

Very few people are aware of Kakri Ghat, and even fewer make the effort to reach it. This exclusivity has helped preserve its purity, calmness, and spiritual charm, making it an ideal destination for those genuinely seeking inner stillness rather than religious tourism.

Why You Should Visit Kakri Ghat

  • Perfect for meditation and introspection

  • Free from crowds and noise

  • Surrounded by nature and flowing river energy

  • Deeply connected to saints and spiritual masters

  • A rare place where silence speaks louder than words

Final Thoughts

On your next visit to Kainchi Dham, do not limit your journey to the temple alone. Take some time to visit Kakri Ghat, experience its silence, and allow yourself to truly connect with the spiritual energy of the Himalayas.

Thank me later. 😉
